Hacienda 2013 - Toffetronic @The Honey pot

I was at a 50th birthday on Sunday ( in a strip club ) and this band took to the stage and left me spellbound and also in denial that I wasn't in the hacienda circa 1989/1990. Toffeetronic are an amazing live band that ooze happy mondays,  Lighting seeds and house beats that keep you dancing right until the end of the set. I figured they deserve a mention as its not something ive seen anybody really trying to recover in-terms of an era or particularly this style of music. It was refreshing to hear and a joy to watch

Swelling of music notes not painful lumps...

I found Swell whilst listening to one of my favourite new bands Spit Shake Sisters ( soon to feature ). Swell is the moniker of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Biggs, hailing from Leeds now living in Brighton (as stated on their Facebook page). This particular song embraces the summer sun, full of ticklish melodies dancing around the delightful sound of the ukulele. John is joined by his friends that make up Swell, one of them being Harrison Blair Davis from Spit shake sisters. I like the fact that there is no set line up and at any point John could be joined by a different set of musicians that could bring a range of different influences to his already evolving sound. The only way is Essex..

Wolf Party hail from Basildon. No Fake tan, Dick heads singing wedding songs or some old bitch named Nanny twat ( Pat ) in this band of brothers from Essex. I saw them play at Nambucca with a band called And These Shore  (also ones to have a listen to) last year. This song is from their latest E.P and you cant help but wade towards labelling them with the obvious K>O>L badge but listen deeper and there are hints of The Boss and Joy division spilling into U2. Have a listen for your self. INDULGE

Ambassadors of Sound..

I have had the privilege of playing with X AMBASSADORS when they came over from Brooklyn NYC for a European tour. We played to a packed Camden Barfly and they were on after us. Ive never felt so insecure about my own bands set after watching them perform this song. Heart felt melodies drive the song, a strong rhythm section and chilling chords played from the ivories. They had energy, presence and were spellbinding to watch. The other thing that astonished me was that they didn't have a label plugging money into them, it was all self funded desire to get their music heard across the atlantic. I for one am looking forward to when they next make the trip but for now ill let you swim amongst the fascinating sounds of X AMBASSADORS. INDULGE

No offense intended..

Two Chicks playing lo fi punk ? FUCK YEAH !!. This Two piece from "Philli" have a sold out e.p but the last song on the record is called No offense. Its probably the most "hooky" of the 4 songs available but it sure has a feel good factor about it. I Would love to see them at a British festival as its the kind of song a British crowd would latch onto and sing to their hearts content. Smashing name as-well..  INDULGE

What Kind of comb do they use ??

I'm currently in the midst of trying to become a first time home owner and the     " lender " seems to be taking some serious amounts of time over the decision of lending me the money. I have used their fine tooth comb to pluck yet another Brighton based band. Ive been delving into the Brighton scene recently and its becoming fail proof for great bands..

Demob Happy . It's full of lovely hooks, smashing guitar riffs and an Eddie Vedder essenced vocal which ticks all kind of sexy boxes for me.  INDULGE

Driving at night can be dangerous...

I had heard about Peers a while ago from the blog of all band blogs My bands better than your band so this isn't necessarily an original post. I do feel extremely passionate that its important to share my local scenes unearthly talents before I start posting band after band from around the country. My first post on this blog featured the incredible Sundara Karma who are only going to be imprinted on more industry radars as their musical career progresses.

Reading has played home to some other bands such as "You me at six" :/ ( I wont be putting a link up for them. Sorry guys..) and the fantastic Tripwires but " Nightdriving " by Peers is the song I turn up to 11 every time It comes on in my car. I feel privileged to live so close to this town that is really starting to create something pretty special. Long may it continue..
